Well done so far! and keep the hard work up.
Initially I had read that only 1000 or multiple of this can be staked. Does this still apply or this rule is changed? (I can see that the staked tokens in the smart contract is never multiple of 1000)

No, that’s never been announced. You can stake any number of tokens. But please keep in mind that you can only stake integer token. That means the minimum is 1 NEX.
